Virginia Tech Massacre

Since everybody else is commenting about this incident I thought I'd join the party. Actually my comments are more related to people's reactions to the incident rather than the incident itself. I will break this up into sections.

(1) Gun Control

Here we go again. As soon as a violent incident occurs the anti-gun lobby calls for the banning of all guns everywhere. While your at it , you're going to need to ban propane, gasoline and fertilizer since they can be used to make extremely powerful bombs.
As it turns out , many states have a policy that forbids people that have been held on a Psychiatric evaluation against their will from purchasing firearms. Virginia was a little more lax. That will probably be fixed. It's about being reasonable here. The knee jerk 'Ban all guns' cry is as absurd as it is predictable. Preventing people who have demonstrated that they are unstable and potentially dangeous from buying firearms is reasonable.

(2) Video Games, Violent Movies and other psycho-babble nonsense.

This one is also completely absurd. People just can't deal with the idea that some people are mentally defective. They have to find a 'cause'. Something that made the shooter do it. What if there is no cause? People can point to some minor frustrations ,that everyone endures in daily life , that set the shooter off. But does this explain anything? The fear people have is that if we can't explain it then we can't stop it. I'm afraid that's the way it is. We can't stop it. We can't control the actions of all people all the time. Some people want to kill. Some of those actually will kill. All we can do is pick up the pieces after it happens. No cures here. Sorry it's the sad truth.

(3) America has a violent Culture.

Another load of crap. Great, hundreds of millions of people are summarily judged by the actions of a single lunatic. Never mind that 99.9999999% of the people are nonviolent . Lets just focus on the few assholes and kooks that are violent.

There is nothing to be gleaned from this incident. It is a random misfortune with no real cause or reason behind it. It is meaningless.

Global Warming Nonsense

Time to take on global warming. Yes, you heard right : it's bull. Not that the globe isn't getting warmer, just that all the bleating and yowling about it is... bull. Why do i say that? Because I'm tired of hearing about it. lets get some things straigtened out.

Scientific Credentials Are Bull
Scientific credentials don't mean dick when you're dealing with religion. What religion? Global Warming. That religion. There are plenty of wackos with a PhD. Not to mention the fact that most of the scientists making dire predictions about global warming are receiving money 'to study the problem'. Great. So objective this brand of science.

Computer Climate Models are Bull
The tie of Global warming to man made CO2 emissions is made via computer climate models. Computer modeling has a funny way of giving you the answer you want. Start with the desired conclusion and build a model that will 'confirm' you're hypothesis. Again, wonderful science here. Not to mention the fact that climate models don't even work over a span of a few days let alone 100 years. It'll probably turn out that they've been using Sim-Earth..

Heat waves tied to global warming is Bull
The Audacity of the global warming prophets to claim that recent hot weather is due to ... you guessed it : Global Warming. I think the Peak Oil freaks and the Global warming wonks need to get together and have a party. Yank on each others sticks until you get tired and have a nice cup of shut the fuck up while you're at it.

In Conclusion
Global Warming is more than likley a natural phenomenon than a made made climate change. Science is about skepticism about every belief. Science is always willing to be proven wrong. Do you think any of the Global warming prophets would accept anything other than their alarmist , doomsayer predictions? They want Global warming to be caused by man's wicked ways. They want to predict distaster and doom. In short , they are not practicing science. They are the founders of the new 'end of days' religion: Global Warming . It's Bull.

Out of Gas

I've been seeing a lot of information on internet about how the world oil supply is running out and we are heading into a new dark ages. So I started reading some more to form an opinion. The writings range from the above prophecy to 'no problem'. The doomsayers are a form of survivalists that believe the end of civilization is at hand and they are the only ones that will be prepared. The other side simply says the oil predictions about peak world oil supply are nonsense and there will be plenty of oil for the indefinite future.
First lets tackle the doomsayers. The fact is that prediction about the future oil supply is an inexact science at best. Yes, it must be finite but finite can be a big number. I won't go into the details I've read from other sites but believe me, you can find people with creds that will hotly debate forward looking statements about oil resources. However, the doomsayers will have none of that: "Were running out, were almost out and were all going to die..." In addition, the doomsayers have a very static view of economics. They see things going exactly as they are until ..poof it happens, we run out of oil. In fact as oil becomes more expensive two things will happen. (1) People will use less of it. People waste gasoline now because even at 3+/gal it is cheap. When it's not cheap, consumption will fall. The more prices rise, the more consumption will fall. Isn't capitalism great. (2)Another wonderful feature of capitalism is that rising oil prices will spur innovation into alternative energy and energy efficiency. I think the doomsayers will be disappointed with the soft landing but they'll find another cataclysm to prophetize.
Now the don't worry be happy folks. It's clear that with Indian and Chinese economies growing at an explosive rate and their demand for oil growing just as fast, the global demand for oil is going to raise prices even if new resources are developed. The United States has set the example of one SUV per person , a 4000 sqr ft house, lots of appliances a second car etc... The people in the emerging economies want to have fun too and they need oil. Lots of oil. In the end the people in the US are going to have to scale back energy usage and the people in the emerging economies are going to have to scale back there expectations of how much energy they will be able to consume as their economies grow. In fact I do believe that life in the US will have to scale back to a lower energy profile because we will enter an era of expensive energy.
